As the world develops, people try to reach supremacy. Some people might say that humans are perfect and constant, however, in my opinion, people cannot be perfect even though they try because of human nature. Through the painting, the artist aims to show that man cannot stretch to perfect. What made this picture unique is that his face is partially hidden by a green apple that seemed to fall off from the branch of the tree just on top of him. The artist proposed to communicate this fact with the usage of the man’s arm and green apple, and the background of the painting show the incompleteness of human being.
To begin with, the appearance of the man symbolizes the incompleteness of the human. There are two main factors: one of his arms are twisted and the green apple in front of his face. At first glance, he seems to be perfect in the black suit and tie, however, after scrutiny, you can easily spot out that his left arm is twisted back and painted with the darker color which means that people have defects. Moreover, the green apple what hides his face attracts that he is spiritually immature. Even though he looks like an adult to wearing a suit, the green apple in front of him shows that he is not. The conflict between the color of the tie and apple imports that the man is not completely matured. Red generally means mature while green means young and innocence. The red tie shows that he is an adult, but the green apple appeals that he is faultless. Hence, the shortages that the man has in the painting typifies that the human cannot be supreme.
On top of that, the background of the painting: gray clouds, sea, and wharf aid that he is incomplete. Gray clouds represent the development of the industry of the society; however, the blue ocean means that humans are inadequate to catch up with fast-paced growth. This can be distinguished by observing the contrast between the colors of the clouds and the ocean. Furthermore, the wharf represents the development and recovery of society's industry after the war. Nevertheless, the man is not facing to the wharf which implies the humans are unprepared to pace up with the active development and they cannot reach the balance with the development. The intention of the painter is that the machine is excellent, and it can provide constant work, but, humans cannot due to the nature of the human.
In conclusion, the artist attempts to persuade the audience to think that they are not perfect, so they should not judge the truth. In addition, the artist also refers that machines are comprehensive and impeccable, but humans are not. As more people think that they are the best these days, the artist wants the people to realize that they will never reach the crest.
