From time to time, people are interested in nature, because nature is deemed as the most beautiful and greatest phenomenon in our universe. Like many other people, William Wordsworth is one of the people who is deeply impressed by nature. Wordsworth’s poem, My Heart Leaps Up, is about his reaction to nature. The poet expresses his thought by using different literary devices and word choices to support his idea.

To begin with, the usage of literary devices enhances tension in the poem. He utilizes the parallelism to emphasize the change of his physicality but the fact that nature is still. The rainbow is considered as the most beautiful phenomenon in nature, which means the rainbow represents the beauty of nature in this poem. His observation of the rainbow caused thoughts of a stable and beautiful nature. For instance, “So was it when my life began” (Wordsworth, 2). When he was young, he was not really interested in nature. He did not realize that nature was consistent and unchanging. Therefore, as he gets older, his love for nature grew much bigger and deeper. “So is it now I am a man/So be it when I shall grow old/Or let me die!” (3-5). This quote implies that his love of nature becomes more extreme as he grew. Furthermore, his love toward nature became so strong that he was willing to give up his life for it. He also supports his opinion that nature is beautiful by the usage of rhymes. The second line and third line especially increase the tone and tension of the poem by rhyming the words “man” (2) and “began” (3). This gives a strong idea of his thoughts about nature. Finally, he was fascinated by nature and was able to walk his own life.

On top of that, the poet uses the word choices in the poem to establish his definition of nature. He mentioned how much he likes nature by using the aggressive word such as a die. Furthermore, Wordsworth wrote in his poem the line, “The Child is the father of the Man” (6). This is, perhaps, the most important line of the poem. In his typical fashion, Wordsworth gives a metaphor, which has enormous effects. What I mean by this is that all people were once children, and they grow up through the lifespan, which means that childhood experiences can be a great teacher and a role model. This is because children are constantly experiencing the world as if for the first-time regarding nature and, indeed, life itself. In the poem, he suggests that we should be like children in this way and that we should hold on to our childish sense of the world.
In conclusion, the author uses literary devices and strong words to emphasize the theme that nature is powerful and beautiful, therefore, humans should love nature and keep it healthy. This is well applicable to modern days because people should take care of and protect the ecosystem. This is expressed in many manifold mechanisms such as literary devices and word choices that he used in the poem.
